03: What's Next? How to Move Forward
I haven't posted The 1:1 Memo in several days since I completed the 60-days challenge.
I'm sure, to the social media world, it looks like I got really busy and forgot to post, or that I've given up entirely, but that's not true. The truth is, I've been thinking about how to move forward, and that's more important to me than keeping up appearances.
I've been asking myself that insane question, "What's next?" And the answer excites me.
Of course, I'm going to continue writing the Memos. It brings me joy to write them, and I believe it's helping at least one person out there. But I'm also asking the question practically. I'm thinking about the future, because with all the potential the Memo offers, there are already some things I'd like to start or change.
Here are some ideas:
- It begins with this new The 1:1 Memo website. I know it's a bit bare as a start, but I know that it'll grow. In the meantime, I'm very excited about it. I will continue to develop the website over time and I'll be looking for ways to make it as helpful to others as possible.
- I'd like to post the Memo less. I want bookends of time to think about what will be most helpful to me, the writer, and to you, the reader. The Memos come from my own journaling practice over the last 32 years and I don't journal every day. Periods of rest are necessarily for a system to be sustainable, something I always forget. Sometimes it's nice to let one's thoughts soak in and make connections before sharing them out loud.
- I want to start posting thematically which will allow me to focus a month at a time. I think it's important to measure growth and it might be easier to know how effective the insights and invitations are, if the content is more focused and people can see how they've developed over the course of a month.
- As an artist and creative entrepreneur, I think it's time I start sharing my experiences with those who are pursuing growth and taking risks in their lives as well. Truth is, I have more to offer than I let on. It might be helpful to someone out there if I shared my experience and how these Memos come from how intentional I try to be in my own life.
- Now that I've proven to myself that I am consistent, I want to find more efficient ways to reach people. Time is such a precious gift and, since life is meant to be lived, I want to find better ways to free up my time to let me do just that.
- And, I want to sell gifts to those who read The 1:1 Memos regularly. Giving them something you can enjoy and take with you along the way. My designer brain both loves and is stressed out by this idea.
Sometimes we allow ourselves to be distracted by people, places, and things because it's easier than asking the question, "What's next?"
The best advice I can give is to take it one step at a time, but to make sure you do take that step. Make sure you do ask, and don't judge yourself for knowing what you want to achieve, or not knowing anything at all.
The point is to start. The next point is to keep going. And we don't know where any of that leads to without asking that insane question.
